Since its inception in 2001 with the original Devil May Cry game, Dante has consistently prioritized flair and style in his demon-slaying adventures. Known for effortlessly eliminating demonic adversaries and punctuating his victories with snappy one-liners, Dante sends his foes back to Hell with a certain panache. A recent preview of Netflix’s upcoming Devil May Cry anime series reveals that Dante retains his formidable demon-battling abilities. However, his attempts at humor might benefit from a few improvisation lessons to better his wit.
Dante’s Humor: More Miss Than Hit?
Interestingly, it appears Dante’s failure to deliver effective jokes actually prevents the woman he rescues from fearing him. Instead of terror, she exhibits annoyance by the end of the scene. Unfazed, Dante continues to view himself as the ultimate embodiment of cool.
This particular scene could very well establish the overall vibe for the series, which kicks off with an energetic opening credits sequence set to Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin’.” The choice of soundtrack is peculiarly appropriate, given that both Limp Bizkit and Dante enjoyed peak popularity back in 2001.
Behind the Scenes of the Devil May Cry Series
The Devil May Cry series is brought to life under the production of Adi Shankar, known for his role as executive producer on Castlevania. Shankar’s portfolio also includes work on Netflix’s Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Joining him in the executive production team are Seung Wook Lee and Hideaki Itsuno. The animation responsibilities have been assigned to Studio Mir, recognized for their work on projects like X-Men ’97, Harley Quinn, and My Adventures with Superman.
Netflix is set to release the first season of the Devil May Cry anime on April 3. While Capcom, the original game developer, has not yet announced any new games following Devil May Cry 5 released in 2019, the success of this series on Netflix might just be the catalyst needed for new developments.
Upcoming Video Game Adaptations
The industry is buzzing with news of up to 40 video game adaptations currently in the pipeline. The big question remains: how many of these will actually see the light of day? As fans eagerly await these releases, only time will tell which projects will come to fruition.
