Crash Bandicoot Animated TV Series May Come To Netflix - Report

Crash Bandicoot May Debut on Netflix Soon

As we approach the 30th anniversary of Crash Bandicoot’s introduction, it’s surprising to note that this beloved gaming icon hasn’t starred in his own television or movie projects over these decades. However, recent insights suggest that Crash might finally make his way to television screens through a Netflix animated series.

According to a report by What’s on Netflix, WildBrain Studios is currently developing the Crash Bandicoot series. While the report does not disclose the names of the individuals involved in the project, WildBrain is known for its involvement in several video game adaptations. They have previously worked on projects like Sonic Prime and Carmen Sandiego, as well as other popular children’s series including Johnny Test, Go Dog Go, The Snoopy Show, Fireman Sam, and Polly Pocket.

Netflix has a solid track record of adapting video games into series, with titles like Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, various versions of Castlevania, Devil May Cry, and the newly released Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. Moreover, Netflix is in the process of creating a live-action series based on Assassin’s Creed.

History and Future of Crash Bandicoot

The first Crash Bandicoot game was launched by Naughty Dog on the PlayStation 1 platform. Throughout the years, the ownership of the Crash Bandicoot franchise has changed hands from Universal Interactive to its current holder, Activision. The latest installment, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, was released in 2020. Unfortunately, a concept artist from Toys for Bob disclosed last year that plans for Crash Bandicoot 5 were scrapped during its development phase.

Earlier in the year, Shuji Utsumi, a former Sony executive who is now CEO at Sega of America, shared that a proposal for a Crash Bandicoot movie was rejected by Hollywood. Neil Druckmann, head of Naughty Dog, has expressed support for a film adaptation of Crash Bandicoot, although he mentioned that the decision now lies with Microsoft following their acquisition of Activision.
