Resident Evil Requiem Producer Teases Characters 'Involved in the Raccoon City Incident' Are in the Game

Capcom has recently confirmed that the upcoming game, Resident Evil Requiem, will incorporate well-known characters from the notorious Raccoon City event, although it has not specified which ones.

There is widespread speculation that the beloved character with the iconic floppy hair, Leon S. Kennedy, will return in Requiem, revisiting the city that marked his tumultuous first day as a novice cop in Resident Evil 2.

To this point, Capcom has been tight-lipped about the return of any old characters in Requiem, focusing its promotional strategies on introducing new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak.

In a recent discussion with Well-Played, producer Masato Kumazawa confirmed the inclusion of past characters, saying, “yes, there are going to be some characters from the past series to come in.”

This statement was made in response to a query about whether characters from Outbreak, besides Alyssa, would make appearances in Requiem. Kumazawa also mentioned that characters “involved in the Raccoon City incident” generally will be part of the game. Here’s his full statement:

“I would say that yes, there are going to be some characters from the past series to come in, but don’t over-expect or hype it,” Kumazawa teased. “We can’t promise you anything about that, but the only thing I can say is that there will be characters that have been involved in the Raccoon City incident involved in the game.”

The question of whether other characters, especially Leon, will appear in Requiem has been a hot topic in discussions about the game, though Capcom seems content to let the speculation persist. Despite focusing on Grace Ashcroft in trailers and early gameplay previews, the company has not confirmed that she will be the only playable character.

In another recent interview, Kumazawa addressed a fan-created image of Leon sporting an eyepatch, labeling it as “fake news” and suggesting it was created by AI. However, he refrained from outright denying Leon’s presence in the game—a detail you might expect to be clarified by now to manage expectations.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S, leaving ample time for more details to be unveiled.
