Twisted Metal Season 2 Launches Two Years After the First
Two years following its initial season, the streaming series Twisted Metal, a collaborative project between Peacock and Sony Pictures and based on the video game series from Sony, unveils its second season this week. The inaugural season laid a complex groundwork, and now protagonists John Doe (played by Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (portrayed by Stephanie Beatriz) encounter fresh hurdles. Season 2 draws significant attention to a destructive vehicular combat tournament, familiar to those acquainted with the video games, orchestrated by Anthony Carrigan’s character, Calypso.
During a visit to the Toronto set of Twisted Metal Season 2, GameSpot caught up with Mackie, Beatriz, and other cast and crew members to scoop insights into the upcoming season. While many specifics about Season 2 are still kept secret, Mackie and Beatriz shared a glimpse of what fans might anticipate. This article will include spoilers for Twisted Metal.
John’s New Life in New San Francisco
In the second season, John successfully completes a crucial delivery of a package from Raven (Neve Campbell), which secures him a citizenship in New San Francisco. Transitioning from his perilous adventures, John now resides within the secure and pristine boundaries of the city.
“He’s now mingling with regular folks, wearing polos, and has access to a shower. Life has changed. Throughout the season, we will see how this transition impacts him and how he has changed,” Mackie explained.
Described as a “man child” in the first season by Mackie, John now finds himself within the structured confines of New San Francisco. Despite the apparent peace, he grows restless, longing for his previous life’s thrills.
“It’s similar to the feeling of returning home for the holidays during your early college years and going wild,” Mackie said. “John has entered this structured environment but still craves the freedom and excitement of his former roles. It’s about learning to conform to the new while missing the old.”
Mackie also mentioned that he sees a reflection of himself in John, as they both approach life with a light-hearted demeanor.
“I’m a ‘glass-half-full’ kind of person. If you take life too seriously, well, that’s not for me,” Mackie expressed. “John embodies that spirit. Each day is a new opportunity, a gift. And there’s only one way to not grow old, right?”
Quiet’s Continued Evolution
Beatriz’s character Quiet experienced significant turmoil in Season 1, witnessing her brother’s murder and embarking on a quest for vengeance. However, her character evolved into a benevolent outlaw, akin to Robin Hood, aiming to uplift the oppressed.

“Quiet is determined to continue doing good and helping others, even in a post-apocalyptic world. You’ll see her more often behind the wheel of her cherished car, Roadkill, in Season 2,” Beatriz said. “She has grown significantly, both personally and as a driver, and you’ll see her enhanced driving skills throughout the season.”
Although John and Quiet parted ways at the end of Season 1, signs hint at an inevitable and dramatic reunion between the two.
Enhanced Action and Practical Effects
Mackie highlighted that Season 2 will feature more practical stunts, thanks to stunt coordinator Logan Holladay, who previously worked as Ryan Gosling’s stuntman in the stunt-centric film Fall Guy.
“We minimize the use of CGI, opting for practical effects wherever possible, which I believe lends a unique, authentic look and feel to the series,” he explained.
Another returning character is the fan-favorite Sweet Tooth, voiced by comedian Will Arnett and performed by wrestler-actor Samoa Joe. Samoa Joe described Sweet Tooth as the “ultimate agent of chaos” this season, facing new enemies he’s eager yet unable to destroy due to the tournament’s rules.
“It’s like a kid craving a cookie he can’t reach,” Samoa Joe said.
Mackie shared his humorous discomfort around Samoa Joe, especially when filming physical scenes involving Sweet Tooth’s oil-covered persona, leading to some slippery and awkward encounters.
“We’re friends, but the things he does when he’s in character… Let’s just say I often end up with traces of baby oil on me after our scenes,” Mackie joked.
Twisted Metal Season 2 is set to premiere on July 31 on Peacock.
