Anthony Mackie’s Fondness for Classic Video Games
While visiting the set of Twisted Metal in Toronto, actor Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Captain America and his part in Twisted Metal, shared his preference for classic video games, as opposed to the modern ones. In his conversation with GameSpot, Mackie expressed that he doesn’t find much enjoyment in contemporary games that focus on fast-paced action. His favorites include iconic titles like Ms. Pac Man and The Simpsons Arcade Game.
Indeed, Mackie’s love for retro games is so profound that, as of August 2024, he had acquired an original Simpsons Arcade Game machine. He recounted a story about the purchase, mentioning, “I found a guy who promised that if the machine ever broke down, he’d personally come over to fix it,” demonstrating his commitment to these older, nostalgic games. He added, “I’ve always been a fan of old-school pinball, Atari, and Nintendo games. The new games just don’t appeal to me—I’m 45, not looking to feed into anger.”
The Adaptation and Cast Insights of Twisted Metal
Twisted Metal, a project by Peacock and Sony Pictures, is a televised adaptation of the popular Sony video game series. Samoa Joe, who portrays the character Sweet Tooth, revealed that he has played every game in the Twisted Metal series, with a particular fondness for Twisted Metal Black from 2001. He praised the game for its “dark” ambiance and “cool” vibe, which were complemented by its soundtrack.
Samoa Joe also shared that he continues to be an avid gamer today, humorously commenting on the excessive size of his Steam library. He admitted that his backlog of games is overwhelming. “It’s pretty bad,” he commented, laughing about how a major publisher gave him a code that unlocked every game they had on Steam. He joked, “Someday, I might even start playing Fire Engine Simulator 4000.”
