For quite a while, the Grammy awards had been about showcasing the more mainstream genres of music, leaving close to little room for dance music. In recent years however, things have started to change as dance music has steadily gained popularity amongst the mainstream listeners. With dance music continuing to tighten it’s grip, more and more artists whom we love from within the dance music industry, have been seen attending the famed awards ceremony.
At this year’s 56th Annual Grammy Awards, many beloved electronic music artists received Grammy nominations and won awards in recognition & honour of their talent. Legendary duo, Daft Punk swept 5 awards including Album Of The Year and Record Of The Year amongst others, while Zedd and Cedric Gervais also picked up an award a piece.
No stranger to the Grammy’s, noted producer/DJ Kaskade also had received two nominations, one for Best Dance Recording and the other for Best Dance Album. On his way in, he stopped to talk to reporters for a short red carpet interview where apart from his nominations, the growing popularity of dance music was discussed. As a pioneer of the genre, Kaskade enthusiastically admitted the joy of seeing how far dance music had come. From being in the shadows, to being “front and centre”, it really has come a long way, he said. Surely one of the artists who find their place in the upper ranks of the dance music industry, Kaskade spoke about the camaraderie between artists from the dance music world.
Given the rapid rise of the genre, the competition was pretty stiff in the dance music categories and unfortunately Kaskade didn’t walk away with an award this year, however he certainly stole the show with his dapper look, in a fashionable suit-jacket by Dsquared.
All we can say is, this serves as a perfect reminder of all the hard work put in by the artists, their managers and the rest of their crew along with fans and supporters of the genre. It goes without saying that, innovation in the industry will continue, so here’s hoping we see more nominations and awards go to Kaskade and his peers!
