Linkin Park might be one of the biggest bands in the world, but that still doesn’t stop them from looking up to their idols. In a recent interview with Loudwire at Loudwire Music Festival, where the band was headlining, Mike Shinoda and Dave Farrell spoke about the bands/artists that have influenced them.
Shinoda was quick to name Metallica and Rick Rubin (who also co-produced their albums Minutes To Midnight, A Thousand Suns and Living Things) amongst his influences, speaking in great details about Rick Rubin.
“If we were listening to a song we were writing, one of the exercises was: What does this sound like? Now what can those artists totally not do? What do they not have the personnel for? What do they not have the talent for or it’s not their forté? And now can we do that and add it in?” said Shinoda about Rick Rubin‘s influence on the band while in the studio.
Dave “Phoenix” Farrell on the other hand named Sir Paul McCartney as an influence, recalling their jam session with the Beatles‘ legend at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, where they played a mashup of ‘Numb/Encore‘ with The Beatles‘ classic track ‘Yesterday‘.
