The 56th annual Grammy awards just came to a close a few hours back and once again electronic dance music inched closer to the spotlight. For the past two years now, as dance music has crossed over from underground to mainstream, the Grammy nominations and awards related to dance music have garnered greater importance & notoriety than ever. Consistently progressing towards the forefront of the current music scenario across the world, dance music luminaries have not only released record breaking tracks and albums of late, but have also given landmark performances at a variety of venues and festivals of repute worldwide.
Establishing that fact even further, this time around the iconic duo, Daft Punk were one of the few artist who won big, taking home a total of 5 awards. The legends even performed live for the first time since the release of their album, Random Access Memories and the second time on television in the group’s entire history at the Grammy awards. Donning all-white versions of their helmets the duo accompanied by Niles Rodgers, Pharrell and Stevie Wonder on stage, performed “Get Lucky”, classic Chic and Wonder tracks, and a handful of Daft Punk samples and in the process swept even the audience present away, bringing a few like Jay-Z and Beyonce to their feet.
