All new ‘Pulselocker’ service for DJ’s to provide viable alternative to music piracy!

“How many times have you bought a track based on the 90-120 sec sample time, and realized that you hated everything but that sample? Or bought a track with the intent to play it out and never actually did?” – Ben Harris, CEO, Pulselocker

Being a DJ is not cheap. Apart from the thousands of dollars DJ’s pour into their gear, the cost of buying hundreds of tracks a month can add up quickly. It’s no secret why many dance music fans and DJ’s turn to piracy: it’s easy, it’s accessible, and it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than legal means.

Created by Ben Harris, Alvaro Velilla and Josh Goltz with a small team of engineers and music industry professionals, the idea for Pulselocker first came to its co-founders a couple of years ago. Harris was then part of a house music trio called Dirty Vegas best known for their Grammy Award-winning song “Days Go By”, and Velilla worked for a European electronic music brand called Pacha. The topic of conversation at the time – as is often the case among artists and those in the industry today – is how difficult it is to make a living today as a musician, a producer or DJ.

Serato introduces “Serato Remote”, their first iPad App

For DJ’s living in Serato land, we imagine you’ve recently updated your software, but if you own an iPad, you’ll need to fork over $20 for ‘Serato Remote‘, Serato’s first iPad app. Don’t ditch your laptops yet, though; the app works in conjunction with your Serato-loaded (and digital file-holding) laptop, acting more as a controller.

You’re able to trigger effects, cue points, loops, and samples, as well as being able to load tracks and make doubles during your mix. It might make it easier for DJ’s who want to manipulate their sounds without having to hit the Serato Face on their laptops but we have a feeling this could end up just being “another thing” that DJs have to keep control of.

To be fair, it also mimics a lot of what we’ve seen the Traktor setups do, although the interface on this one looks like a lot of fun to play.

Check out the demo video below and find out more about Serato Remote now!
