This week marked the debut of Netflix’s new animated series, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, inspired by Tom Clancy’s renowned character Sam Fisher. Shortly after its release, Netflix and the series’ creator, Derek Kolstad, announced the renewal of the show for a second season.
During a discussion with IGN, Kolstad shared the news that Deathwatch will be coming back for another season and mentioned that the second season has already entered the pre-production phase. This indicates that plans for continuing the series were set in motion even before the first season premiered.
Kolstad expressed his enthusiasm about the series’ future direction, hinting at the developments following the cliffhanger at the end of the first season.
“The great thing about such endings is the different ways you can tackle them when the story continues,” Kolstad explained. “You can either dive straight into resolving it, completely avoid it, or use a mix of both. We’re going with a mixed approach here. What you’ll find in Season 2 is a story that expands in scale but maintains deep character focus and tight action sequences.”

When queried about the fate of the series’ beloved dog, Kaiju, Kolstad reassured fans by stating, “Kaiju… will be safe forever.”
The series stars Liev Schreiber as the voice of an aging Sam Fisher who returns from retirement to assist a new character, Zinnia Mckenna, voiced by Kirby Howell-Baptiste. All episodes of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch Season 1 are available for streaming on Netflix. Meanwhile, fans of the original video game series are eagerly anticipating the Splinter Cell remake announced in 2022, while Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow was recently released on Steam, accompanied by a sale on the Splinter Cell Legacy Collection.
