We might be quickly running out of superlatives to describe the wizardry of Dutch superstar Martin Garrix. But one thing for certain is that he’s not done with 2018 just yet. What is turning out to be one of the biggest years of his career, the seasoned act has now returned to production duties for another brand new single. Fresh off putting out his massive ‘Bylaw‘ EP during ADE Week this past October, his newest effort titled ‘Dreamer‘ sees him team up with American act Mike Yung, a former soul singer with an incredible story that’s both heartbreaking and ultimately triumphant.
Signed in the 1980s to T.Electric alongside all-time legends like Etta James and Luther Vandross, Mike later fell on hard times, living on the street in New York, attacked by gangs and stabbed nine times. He spent 38 years busking on the subway to support his family in the projects in Brooklyn before appearing on the hugely popular TV show America’s Got Talent, where he made it to the semi-finals.
Coming back to the song, ‘Dreamer‘ embodies the uplifting feel that characterises Mike Yung’s return to the spotlight, filled with hope and empowerment and positivity, with his incredible delivery soaring over a euphoric pop-meets-soul inspired production. Accompanied by gospel style choir harmonies which takes over the proceedings during the latter half, ‘Dreamer‘ stands out as a truly inspirational record and one that Martin Garrix can be super proud of.
