BBC Radio One‘s Essential Mix is undoubtedly one of the most reputed radio shows in the electronic music industry. Since its inception back in 1993, legendary radio presenter/DJ Pete Tong has crafted a show which invites high profile artists to create a 2 hour mix which is nothing short of a privilege. 2015 saw some stunning mixes by the likes of Eric Prydz and Jeremy Olander, Spor, Tale Of Us, Maceo Plex, Sven Vaeth, David Guetta, Damian Lazarus, Flume, NERO, Floating Points, DJ EZ and many more. During the night of NYE, the winner of 2015’s Radio 1 Essential Mix of the Year title was announced which is chosen by an unnamed panel of ‘industry judges’.
Ben Klock who delivered a raw techno filled Essential Mix back in October caused ripples soon after its broadcast and has been talked about ever since. Facing competition in the form of DJ EZ, Maceo Plex, Tale Of Us and NERO, his cutting edge set which was recorded live in a club setting grabbed 1st place followed by Tale Of Us and Maceo Plex grabbing 2nd and 3rd position respectively. With this win, the longtime Berghain resident DJ and Klockworks label owner has joined the likes of distinguished names like Eric Prydz, Above & Beyond, Swedish House Mafia and many more. Check out the legendary mix below and congratulations to the techno kingpin.
