Rarely do you see artists who go the extra mile, not just for their careers but for the sake of dance music. Steve Angello is one of them. Born in Athens, Greece to a Greek father and a Swedish mother and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, Angello started out in his career as a hip hop DJ and turntablist, and was only introduced to dance music in the form of house by his best friend and former Swedish House Mafia mate, Sebastian Ingrosso, who made him listen to Daft Punk‘s ‘Da Funk‘. In Steve’s own words, the track gave him a “musical orgasm”.
What started out as a slow and steady venture into electronic music, turned into a full blown affair after his remix for Eurythmic’s ‘Sweet Dreams‘ blew up, and there was no looking back for him. A number of collaborations ensued, including one with Eric Prydz, titled ‘Woz Not Woz‘, Laidback Luke, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso (before the SHM era), David Guetta, Alex Metric amongst others, while remixes for the likes of Christian Smith, Tocadisco, Pendulum, Coldplay, Jean Michel Jarre and many more have seen his stature grow as one of the most important figures in the world of dance music today. Steve Angello has also been known to dabble with techno and tech house under his Kid Mescal alias, going deep with his immersive sets, set to keep in touch with his roots. However, the unprecedented success with Swedish House Mafia was perhaps one of the finest success stories the world of dance music had witnessed. Three guys from Sweden coming together to form a trio that would well go on to become one of the most legendary acts dance music had ever seen.
Swedish House Mafia saw Angello join forces with Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso in 2008, and the group saw massive success, right from hit singles such as ‘Don’t You Worry Child’, ‘Greyhound’, ‘Save The World, ‘One’ amongst others, to sold out shows all around the world. However like they say, all good things must come to an end, and the same stood for Swedish House Mafia. The supergroup announced its split in 2012, before embarking on the legendary ‘One Last Tour‘, which culminated at UMF 2013.
Ever since the split, Steve Angello shifted his attention to his record label SIZE Records, and his debut studio album ‘Children Of The Wild‘. While his record label churned out some fantastic singles one after the other, Angello spent more time in the studio working on his album. Though initially the album was supposed to be released on Columbia Records, unnecessary delays on the record label forced Angello to buy out his contract, and release the album on his own record label. 2014 saw him release two of his biggest hits, one in the form of a collaboration with Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman, ‘Payback‘, and ‘Wasted Love‘, his first single from the upcoming album, as well as headlining festivals all around the world, including Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, EDC amongst others, while 2015 saw him finally release the first chapter of his highly anticipated album ‘Wild Youth‘, with the second chapter set for a release this month.
