Richard David James is one those dark characters in the electronic music industry considering his absence from the land of living in general. Collective pieces of work are scarce these days from the complex being i.e Aphex Twin with his last album being Syro which struck a chord with the critics and won a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2014. This past year, in 2015, the enigmatic musician had been silently and in rather progressive fashion showcasing his sonic masterpieces with the complexity going up a notch with each track.
His latest or not so latest (considering his outlook towards actually releasing tracks) work is “T17 Phase Out” which appears on his anonymous account user18081971 does a phenomenal job of making us switch back to listening to those signature AFX tracks. Respecting his next level sounds and incredible talent, his tracks are more of an expression than something which can be described about. But if I were to compile that exact expression, it is indeed dark with a glitchy bit of techno combined with a bass heavy backbone and a mystical aura in the background which molds the whole soundscape. Also, from the accompanying text for the upload, it seems that Richard might’ve just accidentally done it while being intoxicated in remarkable fashion. The text on the SoundCloud upload reads:
