As we reported earlier in January about HBO’s forthcoming electronic music comedy being developed by the Scottish writer Irvine Welsh along with the all time fan-favourite DJ, Calvin Harris, the show is now on it’s way to our TV screens!
“Higher” as the show is called, is being produced by famous rapper Jay Z and noted actor & singer Will Smith, while the music for the show is most probably being managed by Calvin Harris himself.
Welsh, the author of ‘Trainspotting’ (the novel-turned-film about a group of heroin addicts in Scotland) is an experienced screenwriter who understands and knows how to depict the authenticity of rave culture, with all its dimensions. He opened up about the show in an interview with ‘In The Mix’ and gave us an idea of what to expect from it.
“It’s a comedy about the rise of a DJ through the world of electronic dance music, from humble origins to becoming a superstar DJ…The idea’s to make it very character-driven as well – you’ve got [touchstones] like Human Traffic and Project X and that kind of territory, and Entourage is another one too; you know, about the people that are around them.”
