With a number of electronic music projects in the pipeline for film and TV, Hollywood seems to be fixing its feet firmly into the EDM space. Further affirming this, several news outlets this morning reported that a triumvirate of entertainment heavyweights are developing a fictional ‘electronic music comedy’ for HBO.
From what has been made known, Scottish producer/DJ Calvin Harris has developed the series with writer Irvine Welsh, the author of Trainspotting (the novel-turned-film about a group of heroin addicts in Scotland). Moreover, Calvin Harris along with his management, Three Six Zero Group, have teamed with famous rapper Jay Z and noted actor & singer Will Smith and their respective production entities to produce the project which is said to have been called, “Higher”.
Harris was the first client signed to Three Six Zero Group after it was founded by Mark Gillespie and Dean Wilson, who is marked as a producer alongside Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter, and Miguel Melendez from Overbrook, and Jay Z, Jay Brown and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith from Marcy Media.
Even though the project is packed with such high-powered talent, it’s still in the development phase and has a pretty long way to go before production begins, and even further to go before it could even get picked up to air on the network.
Nevertheless fans of Calvin Harris, Jay Z, Will Smith, HBO and Trainspotting, are sure to bubbling with excitement and should surely keep their fingers crossed that this project not only comes to fruition, but also turns out to be a tremendous hit. Here’s wishing the whole crew behind “Higher”, the very best!
