With weeks to go for Deadmau5‘s latest musical chapter to unfold, his brand new album ‘While (1<2)‘ hitting stores mid-June is easily one of the most highly-awaited artist albums to be dropped this summer. In the wake of his album release, Deadmau5 has enticed online users by offering them a free copy of ‘Avaritia‘ on the pre-order of his double disc album. But with the good news announced, Deadmau5 has received some criticism come his way.

Interestingly, after revealing the tracklist alongwith this news, some of his ardent fans and supporters raised some questions and commented on the nature of the “new” music on the album. It is important to note that while the double album release features 25 of Deadmau5‘s most recent work, we’ve already got glimpses of some his tracks through his relentless touring and infinite demos and experiments spread across his social media benches. But this became cause or concern for the fans & supporters who quizzed Deadmau5 on the absence of absolutely brand new music. Deadmau5 began to respond to some of the comments via social media but eventually has posted a blog post via Reddit to clear the air on these doubts.
It is a little disheartening to see negative feedback about the lack of “new” music to the die hard fan who has probably been heard everything on there… but thats just the nature of “oversharing”. I’m still proud to call this body of work a good representative album of my production capabilities, whether youve heard it or not.
…id hate to just lock myself in the studio, with no streams, no fan interaction, no song previews, no free releases on live.deadmau5.com then just make an annual appearance once a year with an album full of new stuff… thats just not my style. Albums (for me) arent produced in a single sitting, overnight. They take time… and during that time, i like to keep people posted on my progress and how its moving along, whether its a stream, soundcloud preview, or live.deadmau5.com release…. and if thats something that “COMPLETELY RUINS AN ALBUM” for you… then… well, shit. i dont know what to tell you.
It’s clear that Joel is, if not the most, one of the most outspoken musicians in the industry. And he loves connecting with his fans. With his website, his social media endeavors, his own app, and the coffee runs, he makes it a point that he’s absolutely accessible by his fans and he lets them into his world even while he’s contemplating or building a demo in the studio. So perhaps, the instances of him “oversharing” may have indeed resulted in a lack of surprise for his religious supporters. But for the majority of the Dance Music Community, the hoopla is still at its crescendo. And we cannot wait till this next masterpiece is unleashed!
