And the results are out. Love them or hate them, but you cannot ignore the fact that the DJ Mag Top 100 polls and their subsequent results are directly influential in the signing fee hike and the number of bookings, turning it into a vicious cycle every year.
2015’s DJ Mag Top 100 polls see Belgian duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike dethrone Hardwell as the No. 1 DJs in the world, followed by Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren and Tiesto completing the Top 5. DVLM’s success comes following their highly aggressive marketing strategy, which saw them employ a team at Tomorrowland, who went from person to person asking them to vote for the duo. The rankings also see Indian Bollywood DJ and producer DJ Chetas make it to #59 on the list.
The DJ Mag Top 100 polls have attracted a lot of flak of late, having become more of a popularity contest rather than judging DJs on their skills. Had that been the case, the Top 10 list would’ve been completely different, and the No. 1 DJs wouldn’t even have made it into the Top 100. But, such is life.
