Deadmau5 permanently closes his SoundCloud account!

It’s official then. After 33 million plays on his account, Deadmau5 aka ‘fuckmylife’ on SoundCloud, has decided to delete his account for good. This means no more previews of new songs or any random ideas which we’ve all loved to listen to so excitedly every now and then, shall officially find a place on the noted audio streaming service website.

It further seems like all fans of the mau5 will now need to sign up for his very own subscription service launched recently, if they want to hear any new music produced by him. Moreover, it is also said that, some (not all) of the tracks will be available on his website, but not all of those will be available for free streaming.

As would be expected, this has left some fans a tad bit cross, as its on Zimmerman’s SoundCloud where over the course of time they’ve enjoyed listening to his unreleased tracks and diverse experiments for free even though in most cases it was without any actual legal download capability. On the other hand, those who have already subscribed to the service wouldn’t care since they can download all of it anyway.

Any which way, it’s a smart move which will continue to funnel dedicated fans to Joel’s paid site which will help him make more money out of it and would also help him avoid dealing with spammers and people asking for promos. Moreover, the decision would also see him not have to split his attention and upload his works to various places.

Sure, YouTube rips and bootlegs shall still be available to those who don’t mind them, but the fact remains that new music won’t be readily available to anyone who isn’t willing to cough up $5/month which even goes for the new double album that’s on it’s way.

Now, we’ll never know why exactly the decision was taken, but its certain that Joel Zimmerman is ready to find a new way to push his music himself. Those who truly love his music should seriously look into signing up for his subscription service, if not for the music then for all the other cool features included as well.

Here’s to the end of an era and to one of the greatest and most interesting SoundCloud accounts there ever were!
