In an effort to promote its “Your Verse” campaign, Apple has released a new video featuring the Chinese music group Yaoband to underline the iPad as a music production tool. Using the band’s unique and innovative methods of producing music, Apple is planning to market the iPad as more than a tablet and a portable replacement for larger music production equipment.
Here’s how Apple describe Yaoband’s production process:
“Once they have a solid beat, Peter and Luke Wang jam iPad to iPad in free-form sessions. Peter uses the Music Studio app to lay down the melody and try different instrumentations, which can in turn influence Luke Wang’s sound. With a tight demo in hand, they bring in the other band members to contribute their parts, balancing electronica with traditional rock guitar, bass, and drums. As the final touch, rapper Mr. How uses Notes to jot down lyrics.”

Positioning the iPad as a music production tool certainly has its appeal, as it gives music producers to make music on the go. However, the effectiveness of it remains to be seen.
