The golden gramophone has gained lustre among the dance music fraternity with over fifteen artists nominated for the 2014 Grammy Awards. Dance music is all over the place in the best way possible, with a plethora of artists, albums, originals, and remixes being embraced by the titan of the music industry.
It was the romance of a pair of French robots and Pharrell that swept the nominations (the esteemed Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance) for their hit song Get Lucky. Once again, Daft Punk have proved that they’re infinite–hit wonders with a hat-trick of nominations (including Album of the Year, Best Dance/Electronica Album, and Best Remixed Recording, Non Classical) for their platinum Random Access Memories, scoring a total of five nominations for the duo.
With albums that sound like anniversary podcasts with literally hit song after hit song, Calvin Harris, Disclosure, Kaskade, Daft Punk and Pretty Lights give each other tough competition in the Best Dance/Electronica Album category. Then there’s the anthems of the electronic music generation, including Sweet Nothing, Atmosphere, This Is What it Feels, Clarity, and Need U, fighting it out for the Best Dance Recording. Disclaimer: These tracks sound just as good on the dance floor as they do on your iPod. Finally, a unique and lesser-known category, Best Remixed Recording (Non-Classical), gives note to phenomena like Andy Caldwell, Alesso, Sultan & Ned Shepard, Photek and Cedric Gervais. Another disclaimer: These songs might not be classical but they’re still classics.
