TyDi is far too young to be this talented. He came into the industry only a few short years ago and made his mark with uplifting and distinct tunes.
‘Hotel Rooms’ is an album about the transient spaces between tours and festivals. It’s about plane rides, bus journeys and yes, nights spent in hotel rooms. While he describes it as a ‘chill out’ compilation, I’d go as far as to call it a mood compilation, ranging from orchestral highs to melancholic piano lows. Every songs seems deeply personal, as if TyDi is allowing his fans a fleeting glimpse into his soul.
In a recent interview where he was asked to describe the songs on his album in a sentence, a lot of them were about people who are or were important to him at some point in his life. Not one to forget his fans, half the album consists of the ones truly loved by them. TyDi demonstrates a quiet strength through his lilting music and how adept he is at creating tracks with a wide variety of otherwise non complimentary instruments. “Gravity” and “Red & Black” are true orchestral and electronic works of genius, “Nightfall In Suburbia” tones it down with chimes and and a heady thrum of the piano and the stripped version of his massive hit, “Fire & Load” takes a beautiful song and makes it absolutely gorgeous.
If you’re going on a long drive alone or having a chill out session with your friends, the songs on this album are equally apt for both the situations. The album swims through relaxed ambient influenced synth layers which suddenly flow into emotive orchestral styles and ethereal vocals.
Tydis talent will take him places, not just with lovers of electronic music in general, but even with the niche cult following relatively unknown artists enjoy.
The album is a must buy and now available on the iTunes store
