Warzone Will Get a 'Bold New Experience' Inspired by OG Call of Duty Battle Royale Mode, Blackout, in Spring 2026

Call of Duty: Warzone has announced an exciting new development slated for next spring, drawing inspiration from the original battle royale mode, Blackout, which debuted in Black Ops 4.

In a recent announcement shared on X/Twitter, the Call of Duty team released an image depicting players parachuting into battle with the caption: “Approaching the drop zone… Call of Duty: Warzone is set to introduce a bold new experience this Spring of 2026, taking a leaf from the original Blackout and set against the backdrop of Avalon.”

The Blackout mode initially launched with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. At the time, we praised Blackout for its “responsive and forgiving gunplay, agile movement, and inventive yet practical equipment,” which seamlessly integrated into the popular last-man-standing game format. Although Blackout was later replaced by the dedicated battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone, which itself received significant updates in 2022, the original mode continues to be fondly remembered by many fans, a sentiment echoed by the numerous likes and comments the Twitter post has garnered.

While specifics remain scarce, Activision has hinted at what players can anticipate with the upcoming update to Call of Duty: Warzone:

  • Bold New Blackout Experience on Avalon
  • Rebirth Island Refresh
  • Verdansk Updates
  • Ranked Play
  • And MORE!

As for the upcoming mainline Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch on November 14, 2025, and will be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. Fans eager to get a preview can participate in an open beta from October 5-8, while those who pre-order can access an early beta from October 2-5 — check here for the beta schedule in your timezone.

In a recent advisory, Activision reminded PC gamers that they must enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to participate in the beta and at launch, similar to requirements seen in Battlefield 6. These measures are critical for running Black Ops 7 on PCs and are intended to deter the use of modified hardware and unauthorized software.
