Call Of Duty Movie Adds A Major Name

In a recent development, Paramount declared in September that they had secured a partnership with Activision to produce a cinematic adaptation of the popular video game “Call of Duty.” Following closely on this announcement, Paramount has successfully assembled a high-profile team to pen the screenplay. The team includes Taylor Sheridan, the mind behind the hit series “Yellowstone,” who will collaborate with the movie’s director, Peter Berg.

Variety reports that Sheridan’s involvement comes as a bit of a surprise given his recent agreement to switch from Paramount to NBCUniversal, a transition set for when his current contract ends in 2028. Despite this forthcoming departure, Paramount appears to be maintaining a positive relationship with Sheridan.

Sheridan, whose screenplay for “Hell or High Water” earned him an Oscar nomination, has an impressive portfolio. He has written films such as “Wind River,” “Sicario,” and its sequel “Sicario: Day of the Soldado.” His television and streaming achievements are also noteworthy, with successful projects including multiple “Yellowstone” prequels and Paramount+ original series like “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Tulsa King,” and “Lioness.”

Peter Berg, who will direct the “Call of Duty” film, has a solid track record as a director with films like “The Rundown,” “Friday Night Lights,” “The Kingdom,” “Hancock,” “Battleship,” “Deepwater Horizon,” and “Lone Survivor” under his belt.

In an interesting move last month, Activision reached out to the “Call of Duty” fanbase with a survey asking which aspects of the game they would prefer to see in the movie adaptation. The game series, which debuted in 2003, spans multiple eras and settings. There have been several prior attempts to bring “Call of Duty” to the big screen, including an initiative by Steven Spielberg that ultimately did not come to fruition due to unmet demands.

Additionally, the agreement between Paramount and Activision opens the possibility for a television series based on “Call of Duty,” though there has been no further news on this prospect. Meanwhile, the latest installment in the video game series, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7,” is scheduled to be released on November 14, available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
