Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Confirmed at Xbox Games Showcase 2025

The unveiling of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 took place during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, captivating audiences with its dramatic trailer.

This latest installment, crafted by Treyarch and Raven Software, marks the first time a consecutive release has occurred in the Black Ops sub-series. Matt Cox, the General Manager of Call of Duty, shared that the team’s initial goal was to craft a sequential series that highlights the distinct nature of the Black Ops brand.

While a specific launch date was not disclosed, it was confirmed that Black Ops 7 will be available later in the year 2025. Here is the official synopsis:

Armed with state-of-the-art technology, David Mason and his squad are tasked with combating a cunning foe who uses fear as a weapon.

Set in the year 2035, Black Ops 7 occurs over four decades after Black Ops 6 and in the aftermath of the events in Black Ops 2 and the recent Black Ops 6. The game will see the return of the cooperative campaign mode, absent in Black Ops 6, though players can still opt for a solo campaign. The game promises futuristic weapons in its Multiplayer mode, introducing entirely new maps, and a fresh chapter of Round-Based Zombies within the Dark Aether.

According to reports from Variety, the game features Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker. Ventimiglia takes on the role of David Mason, Shipka debuts as Emma Kagen, and Rooker returns as Mike Harper, a character from Black Ops 2.

Some community members view the announcement of Black Ops 7, following closely after Black Ops 6, as a transitional release similar to how 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 was perceived following 2022’s Modern Warfare 2.

Nevertheless, Cox emphasized that Black Ops 7 “offers the complete Call of Duty experience to our players, and we are eager to reveal more of what our studio teams have been working on later this summer.”

Tyler Bahl, the Head of Activision Publishing Marketing, also commented, “Our team is excited to build upon the immense enthusiasm and excitement within the Black Ops community. This is our first venture in releasing sequential Black Ops titles, allowing players extended time to enjoy all the live seasons and enriching their experience across Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone before moving on to Black Ops 7.

“Our official teaser sets the stage for the thrilling narrative awaiting players in Black Ops 7.”

“This consecutive release of Black Ops titles also grants our teams a fantastic chance to leverage their creativity and adapt from a ’90s theme to the futuristic setting of 2035 in our promotions,” Bahl added.

It has also been confirmed that Black Ops 7 will be available on last-gen consoles, including the Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC through “Xbox PC,” Battle.net, and Steam. The game will be accessible from day one on Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, with no mention of Nintendo Switch 2 in the announcement.
