New U.S. Girls Album Announcement
Meg Remy has unveiled her latest project, a new album from U.S. Girls titled Scratch It. This album follows her 2023 release, Bless This Mess, and is set to drop on June 20 via 4AD. Leading the album is a 12-minute epic single named “Bookends.” Below, you can watch the music video for this track. Keep reading for a list of the upcoming U.S. Girls tour dates.
“Bookends” was a collaborative writing effort between Remy and Edwin de Goeij, and serves as a homage to the recently deceased singer of Power Trip, Riley Gale. Caity Arthur, the director of the music video, shared her thoughts: “The video centers on themes of death and redemption. It portrays death not as a gloomy abyss but as a pivotal, even blissful transition, a fresh start. This shift from the conventional view of death is visualized through an eclectic mix of scenes including a 1960s pop star act, an ensemble cast in a hallucinatory setup, and some clever magic tricks. As the video unfolds, different TV channels show these varied representations, aligning with Meg’s lyrics that explore the multiple facets of death.”
The creation of Scratch It was a collaborative effort involving guitarist Dillon Watson, bassist Jack Lawrence, drummer Domo Donoho, keyboardists Jo Schornikow and Tina Norwood, and harmonica player Charlie McCoy. The team recorded the album over a span of just 10 days.
