New Tracks Released from Broken Social Scene Tribute Album

The Arts & Crafts label has unveiled two additional tracks from the upcoming tribute album Anthems: A Celebration of Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It in People. You can now enjoy Toro y Moi’s rendition of “Stars and Sons” and a collaborative cover of “Almost Crimes” by Miya Folick and Hand Habits.

Set to release on June 6, the album Anthems: A Celebration of Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It in People comprises 13 covers of tracks from the influential album. Artists like Hovvdy, Mdou Moctar, and Spirit of the Beehive have also contributed their unique interpretations to this project.

Artists Share Their Experiences and Inspirations

Toro y Moi shared his personal connection with Broken Social Scene in a press release, recalling how he first came across BSS during his sophomore year of high school. He praised You Forgot It in People for its production quality, noting it as significantly ahead of its time with its unique intros, outros, and interludes. These elements have deeply influenced his own record-making approach. He expressed his delight at being a part of this tribute.

Miya Folick discussed her cover experience, stating that You Forgot It in People holds a special place as one of her favorite albums. She felt honored to contribute to the tribute alongside Meg Duffy of Hand Habits and Sasami. They crafted their cover in Stinson Beach, interspersing their music sessions with long walks and meals, creating a track that is best enjoyed through headphones.

Meg Duffy of Hand Habits also commented on the profound impact the album had on her, leading her to explore music more deeply. Despite the album being nearly a quarter-century old, she felt honored to celebrate this collective of musicians. Duffy credited Broken Social Scene with heavily influencing her own music and approach to seeking out community and collaboration.
