'If We Were Good at Juggling Four Projects, Yeah, We'd Have a Remaster' — Ghost of Yotei Dev Sucker Punch Says It Will Remain a Single-Project Studio

The Future of Sucker Punch Post-Ghost of Yotei Release

With the launch of Ghost of Yotei, the gaming community is eager to know what’s next for Sucker Punch, the studio owned by Sony. Despite the curiosity, the company’s management has not yet revealed any future plans. However, insights from the company’s leadership suggest that Sucker Punch will continue to focus on one project at a time.

During an interview with VGC, Brian Fleming, the co-founder and studio head of Sucker Punch, shared that the studio’s next venture will be decided after the release of the multiplayer extension, Ghost of Yotei: Legends, scheduled for 2026. Fleming emphasized the studio’s strategy of handling one project at a time, indicating a steady but focused approach to game development.

Fleming explained, “The reality is that our next step, whether it involves continuing the Ghost series or revisiting Sly, is heavily influenced by our dedication to focus and the necessary time for iteration. This means we are equipped to tackle only one project at a time.”

He further elaborated, “If multitasking across four projects was our strength, we could easily churn out a remaster, dive into a new game, and respond to fan requests—all of which would be immensely popular. But, our capability allows us to undertake just one project at a time.

“Therefore, it has to be your best idea, right? It’s very clear. It’s not that we lack good ideas—there are probably 15 solid ones. However, we can only pursue one. Moreover, we only launch a new title roughly every five years, so making the right choice is crucial. It’s akin to choosing your college and major every five years,” he said.

Sucker Punch has a rich history of successful franchises to potentially draw upon for future projects. Fleming mentioned Sly Cooper, a beloved series that fans have been eager to see return. Additionally, there’s the question of whether the studio will explore more of the inFamous series, perhaps with a remaster followed by a sequel. Moreover, the possibility of another installment in the Ghost series, following Tsushima and Yotei, is highly anticipated, as fans often appreciate a well-crafted trilogy.
