Update: Red Dead Redemption Coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Confirmed

Update 11:13am PT: This morning, Rockstar officially announced via a social media post:

“Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are coming to Netflix, iOS, Android, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on Dec 2,” the announcement stated. “Experience these epic Western adventures with free upgrades, the ability to carry over game progress, and more.”

The mobile adaptations of the game will feature controls optimized for touchscreens, and the Netflix version will be accessible to all existing subscribers from its launch date on December 2. Players on PS5 and Xbox Series will enjoy the game in 60fps, enhanced visual quality, support for HDR, and resolutions up to 4K. The Nintendo Switch 2 version includes support for DLSS, HDR, mouse controls, and 60fps.

Furthermore, if you already possess Red Dead Redemption on PS4, Nintendo Switch, or the backward compatible digital version for Xbox One, you’ll be entitled to a free upgrade to this new enhanced version. PlayStation and Switch owners will also be able to continue using their current game saves on the new consoles.

Original Story continues below:

Rockstar’s iconic Western title, Red Dead Redemption, is now set for release on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

A recent ESRB rating has been issued for Red Dead Redemption on modern gaming systems, where it has been rated M for Mature due to its content featuring blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and drug use.

The rating also highlights the presence of “zombies,” indicating the likely inclusion of the popular Undead Nightmare expansion, so fans can look forward to that as well.

While Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed this new version of Red Dead Redemption, it now has a year to do so, given the latest delay of Grand Theft Auto 6, now postponed to November 19, 2026.

Originally launched in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption is also officially available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. While you can play the PS4 version on PS5 and the Xbox 360 version on Xbox Series X/S, a native version for these modern consoles has not been released yet.

(Of course, there is also no modern console version of Red Dead Redemption 2 as of now, but that’s a topic for another time.)

Earlier this month, Rockstar faced criticism after dismissing over 30 employees it claimed had leaked confidential company information. In response, employees organized a protest outside Rockstar offices, and over 200 workers signed an open letter accusing the company of union busting. It is believed that all dismissed staff were members of the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), organized through an external Discord channel. Recently, the IWGB confirmed it had initiated a legal action against Rockstar, to which the company has not yet responded.
