Tetsuya Nomura, the director, has responded to eager fans awaiting updates on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 and Kingdom Hearts 4, stating that both projects are advancing smoothly.
This update, albeit minor, brings some reassurance about the progress of two highly anticipated Square Enix titles. The news came during the recent Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis second anniversary broadcast, as reported and translated by Gematsu. Nomura addressed the barrage of fan comments that have been flooding in, hoping for new announcements.
“[Co-director Motomu] Toriyama might have hinted in a past interview about a possible reveal around the second anniversary [of Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis],” Nomura explained. “This likely fueled some of the expectations. As it stands, everything is on track. It’s tough not to spill more details—I know it would be quite the shock if I did!” [Laughs.]

Nomura even mentioned that the “release schedule has been set” but refrained from sharing any specific dates. He encouraged fans to remain patient, confirming that the development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is moving along as planned.
Since the debut of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in early 2024, RPG enthusiasts have been eagerly scouring for news on the next installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. It is known that development commenced as early as June 2022, with Square Enix aiming for a release by 2027. Anticipation for the trilogy’s conclusion has only intensified following the announcement that the storyline was completed earlier this year.
Similarly, development for Kingdom Hearts 4 is moving along well, though Nomura has disclosed even less about when more updates might be expected.
“Additionally, as some of you might have noticed in the comments,” Nomura continued, “Kingdom Hearts IV is also progressing steadily according to our timeline, so stay tuned for more.”
Kingdom Hearts 4 was announced in 2022, but updates have been sporadic at best. It wasn’t until May 2025 that Square Enix finally provided a significant update, though it only consisted of a few new screenshots and a brief message from the development team.
“We appreciate how excited you’ve been, and we thank you deeply,” Square Enix expressed at that time. “We share your excitement and look forward to revealing more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we ask for your patience.”
As for when more information on Kingdom Hearts 4 or Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be released, that remains uncertain. In the meantime, fans can delve into everything we know so far about the former here. They can also discover why the team behind the latter insists they “will not cheat” regarding Final Fantasy 7’s iconic airship.
