Alien: Romulus Director Fede Alvarez Will Produce But Not Direct the Sequel

Fede Alvarez has decided not to direct the follow-up to his successful 2024 movie Alien: Romulus. The production team is currently looking for a new director to take over the upcoming sequel.

As reported by TooFab, Alvarez will continue to be involved in the sequel as a producer. He co-authored the script with Rodo Sayagues. During an interview at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, Alvarez shared insights with TooFab.

“We’ve actually just completed the script for the next Romulus movie. However, I’ll be stepping down as the director for this one,” Alvarez remarked. “I’ll be taking on the role of producer, collaborating with Ridley Scott. We are jointly working to scout a new director to lead the project.”

Alvarez further noted, “This is a common occurrence in the industry; usually, except for Ridley, directors make their film and then hand over the reins to someone else.”

“We crafted the storyline out of our passion for what we began with Romulus and are eager to continue this narrative. We adore the story and are now on the lookout for a director who is ready to really dive deep into it.”

Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson are expected to return in their roles for the sequel of Alien: Romulus, which will be distributed by 20th Century Studios.

“With a gifted group of young actors and top-tier production design, Alien: Romulus returns to the basics of blockbuster horror, condensing everything fans cherish about the versatile franchise into a single movie. It’s definitely a film to make time for during your next Alien series marathon.”

While the wait for the Romulus sequel might be long, the Alien franchise still offers plenty to keep fans entertained.
