Possible Reunion for Alex Garland and Cailee Spaeny in Upcoming Elden Ring Film
Alex Garland, noted for his roles as both writer and director, may join forces again with actress Cailee Spaeny for the cinematic adaptation of Elden Ring. Spaeny, who recently starred in Alien: Romulus, is currently in negotiations for a role in the film, although the details of her character remain undisclosed.
The news of this potential casting was brought forward by Jeff Sneider, citing a report from Eurogamer. Garland and Spaeny have previously collaborated on the television series Devs and the film Civil War, released last year. Spaeny gained significant recognition for her role as Rain in Alien: Romulus, with her major career breakthrough occurring with Pacific Rim: Uprising in 2018.
Details on Elden Ring Film’s Development
The movie adaptation of Elden Ring was officially announced in May, with Garland appointed as director and screenwriter. Garland is no stranger to managing both roles, having done so previously in films like Ex Machina, Annihilation, and the earlier mentioned Civil War. Additionally, Garland’s experience in the gaming world includes co-writing Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and contributing to the storyline of DmC in 2013. His familiarity with Elden Ring is evident, as he mentioned being on his seventh playthrough of the game just last month.
The film’s cast might also include Kit Connor, marking another collaboration between him and Garland following their work together in last year’s film Warfare.
Elden Ring’s Continued Success
Elden Ring not only clinched the title of Game of the Year from GameSpot in 2022 but is also set for a release on the Switch 2 this year. Additionally, its expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, has recently achieved over 10 million copies shipped. The game’s cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring Nightreign, has similarly performed well, shipping 5 million units.
