Highly Awaited Documentary On Roland TR-808's Drum Machine Has Finally Arrived!

One of the devices that changed the face of music to what it is today, is unarguably the Roland TR-808 drum machine. Better known as the 808, the analog drum machine came into existence in 1980 until it was discontinued in 1983. While there has been a lot of speculation around the machine and its short lived nature, five years ago, You Know Films declared it was making a documentary based on the machine, complete with its origination in Japan. And now, 808: The Movie is now finally available for download on iTunes Store.

Narrated by Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, he talked about the movie saying:

“I love this film. The 808 has left an impactful mark on my life. It’s been the driving force for so many of my favorite records, and I jumped at the chance to be involved. I wanted to learn more about how this incredible drum machine came to exist, and it’s been exciting to hear other people’s stories and what it means to them. It’s the magic ingredient.”

Moreover, the film features commentary and contributions from superstars such as Pharrell Williams, Afrika Bambaataa, Questlove, The Beastie Boys, Damon Albarn, David Guetta, Phil Collins, Diplo, New Order, and Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), as well as pioneering producers including Rick Rubin, Jellybean Benitez, Hank Shocklee, and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.
