2016 has been nothing short of justifying itself as a two-sided coin. And as the year comes to a close, we have now lost British pop icon George Michael. While the music industry has ushered in massive success throughout the past twelve months, we have also suffered irreparable loss in the form of visionaries like Prince, David Bowie and more.
According to news reports, the legendary figure was found dead on Sunday at his home due to heart failure in Goring in Oxfordshire, England. Famously known for his solo records and his contribution towards the highly famed duo Wham!, his publicist issued a statement earlier today which read:
“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”
A number of people took to social media to express their shock, grief and memories from the ‘Careless Whisper’ singer.
I always had great respect for George's talent, especially as a songwriter. This year has been quite the enemy to music. RIP #GeorgeMichael pic.twitter.com/Kxs09XtCN3

When Freddie Mercury died in 1991, I cried. They had a tribute concert for him where #GeorgeMichael sang this. https://t.co/cHizw7u3pc
