When two Dutch deep house sensations team up, you know they’re going to break waves and that’s exactly what went down when Sam Feldt and Deepend joined forces earlier this year to unleash their incredible tropical track ‘Runaways’ featuring gorgeous lyrics by Teemu. While the gorgeous tune continues to garner thousands of plays with each passing day, we caught up with the collaborators to talk about their latest hit, future plans and much more!
Read on.
TBB: First of all, how did you guys come to know each other and how did the record ‘Runaways’ come together?
Sam: I’ve known the Deepend guys for a while, we would play similar shows quite frequently, we were just waiting for the right time to make a song together as our styles blend well together. ‘Runaways’ started with the vocal acapella from the talented Teemu. I was messing around in the studio with the vocal, then I immediately thought of including the Deepend guys on the track. The rest is history! We’re all really happy with the result.
TBB to Deepend: You guys were supported by Moby before any big names in the house music scene, will you please tell us about that? How has been your journey since you guys first landed the release?
Deepend: When we started to produce music, we were doing a lot of unofficial remixes for songs that we liked from the past. One of these songs was Moby’s ‘Natural Blues’. We posted the song on our Soundcloud page and after a few days, we received a personal message from Moby telling us that he was super excited about our version and he shared the track on his socials and website! This was a big motivation for us to go on!
We then signed our first single to Armada and did a few remixes afterwards, until we received a remix request for ‘Matt Simons – Catch & Release’ in early 2015. This track has literally changed our lives. Our remix was the most played song on European radio for several weeks and reached #1 positions in 5 countries. This was a massive boost for our career. We could quit our jobs and started touring through Europe. A dream coming true!
TBB to Sam: You’re about to host the very first ADE pool party with ‘Heartfeldt and Friends’ You also launched the whole new one-stop website for all things ‘Heartfeldt’. So are we going to see a new ‘Heartfeldt’ imprint come to be? Where do you vision the ‘Heartfeldt’ brand to progress towards?
Sam: I’m really excited to have my Heartfeldt portal up and running, I’m the first artist to have something like this. Heartfeldt is a closer look into my world, from the latest music I’m releasing to what my life is like on the road and what shows I have coming up. Users can communicate with each other and producers can drop in demos for my Heartfeldt Radio show. In the future, I will be hosting live streams and Q&A tutorials to all of the Heartfeldt users – so watch this space!
TBB: How has your 2016 been so far? What do you guys have in store for the near future? Some big news/releases that you can let us know or hint towards?
Sam: My 2016 so far has been incredible. My single with Lucas & Steve ‘Summer On You’ feat. Wulf went platinum in my native Holland – which is mind blowing! My good friend Bakermat and I went on our ‘From Amsterdam With Love’ American Tour which was crazy, the crowds each night just got better and better as the tour went on. I also played at several festivals for the first time over the summer too. I recently released my latest single ‘Runaways’ with Deepend feat. Teemu, my Heartfeldt.me portal is finally available and I’ll be hosting my pool party ‘Heartfeldt and Friends’ at Amsterdam Dance Event, which I’m super excited for. It’s not one to miss!
Deepend: We had so many highlights in 2016. We made our debut at Tomorrowland and had our first Ibiza season with crazy shows at Pacha and Ushuaia. Our ‘Catch & Release’ remix topped the charts in Europe and went Platinum and Gold in 10 countries. We released our club track ‘I’m Intoxicated’ on Spinnin’ and remixed Robin Schulz and Gnash’s hit single ‘I Hate U, I Love U’. We’re super happy with the recent release of ‘Runaways’. This song creates always a special moment in our set.
