Poster child for Indian electronica, the Delhi-based producer and composer Sahej Bakshi, popularly hailed as Dualist Inquiry, recently revealed what may just be the biggest and most expansive release of his career, with the announcement of an all-new LP ‘Dreamcatcher’, featuring several of India’s shining underground talents with the likes of Kavya Trehan of MOSKO fame, Sohrab Nicholson and The F16s.
Previewing his album to power-packed audiences in Mumbai and Pune over the last few weekends, with the visual gods Wolves in tow, Dualist has pulled out all the stops to ensure that this release breaks out in waves across the music scene. Now, to further tantalize our senses until the official album release on 12th September, Dualist gives us a test shot of what his album will be like with the exclusive premiere of the albums first new track: ‘Sleepwalker’.
Keeping things spooky and mesmerizing, this track kicks off with eccentric beats and soft melodic keys as Dualist adds hauntingly beautiful vocal reverbs that delve into several dimensions of effervescent synth play. It is at the breakdown that the tune clashes into some immensely distorted strokes of sound, including heavier keyboard work and addictive percussion. The song is infectiously ethnic and has a certain rustic electronic feel to it, which just goes to show how proficient the one man talent Dualist Inquiry can get, and this is just the beginning!
