Spinnin’ Records Releases Press Statement, Plans To Sue Martin Garrix

Spinnin' Records Releases Press Statement, Plans To Sue Martin Garrix

The Martin GarrixSpinnin’ Records saga has been one of the most controversial and talked about ones for quite some time now. Earlier in 2015, Martin had revealed in a long Facebook post about his departure from the label after which came an extreme action by the Dutch wonderkid in the form of plans to sue his former manager.

After a brief period come December 3, 2015, the “Animals” producer issued a press statement informing about the withdrawal of the lawsuit which he filed for the regaining of exclusive rights to his music. Noting his earlier comment saying “remaining differences to be subjected of further legal proceedings”, the people from the giant label’s camp have issued a fresh and extensive statement about the whole ordeal. Going into detail about the legal agenda, Spinnin’ talked about a lawsuit to determine the financial compensation due to the label and Music All-Stars (MAS) management from the superstar DJ, since their original agreement was “unilaterally terminated by Martijn Garritsen.

Going by the statement, the collaboration between the two parties were meant to continue atleast until 1st July, 2017. Throwing light on the serious allegations against them as far as “false and misleading allegations” go, they said about their willingness to land a renewed contract and how his “very experienced business man” father Gerard Garritsen was also a part during the negotiation and always has been ever since his Garrix’s teenage years,

“From early 2015 we have freely spoken with Martijn Garritsen about his wish to re-negotiate the existing contracts and in our vision, improper arguments were used to put pressure on the discussions. It was even mentioned ‘fraud’ had been used by us to move Martijn Garritsen to close contracts with us in 2012. Of course we completely disagree; Martijn Garritsen, his father Gerard Garritsen, a very experienced business man, and their team have always let themselves be advised, have widely researched the market and shopped around for deals and always had time and room for negotiation to come to well considered decisions. Moreover all agreements have been negotiated in detail and were also signed by father Gerard Garritsen.”

The statement continues to reveal that the company had attempted to re-negotiate contracts with Garrix over the course of 2015 but the parties were unable to meet on new, agreeable terms and citing that the nullification of contracts isn’t justifiable and need to be respected. Reportedly, the two parties have now agreed that his present and future releases will be exploited by Spinnin’ until 2023. The “further legal proceedings” give way to another “solution” citing,

MAS would take care of management until at least 1 July 2017. And Spinnin’ Records would exclusively release and exploit all tracks of Martijn Garritsen until that date.

Mainly looking at this controversy from the label’s perspective, they strictly aim at the amount of hard work and money put into play for Garrix’s career to build up and see the meteoric rise which has taken place, and ultimately are willing to be paid for their services and no less; now that Martin isn’t looking to be under their cover. And as per the statement since the above “solutions” aren’t taking place, they reveal that,

“As this is not happening anymore, Spinnin’ Records as well as MAS will lose lawful income. No hard feelings, but we do want to be compensated – nothing more, nothing less.”

Ultimately, if you look at this matter from a fan’s perspective, this whole matter isn’t going to play down the amount of musical output but will remain as a confined affair between the management label and the Dutch producer. Personally, this whole story still appears very much shady and more revelations are likely to surface. Stay tuned for more updates.
