Not all huge artist albums follow the same route to success, and this, one of the most anticipated dance music album of the year certainly had a long and arduous journey written for itself. Yes that’s right! We’re talking about Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen’s debut album ‘Abandon Ship’ that after a series of delays and finally having a ready-to-go schedule with a special marketing plan in place, has now sprung a leak and been put on iTunes three weeks ahead of the official release date.
Well, even without the execution of the label’s full-fledged marketing plan and not causing any harm either, it has climbed instantly all the way up to No. 3 on iTunes’ overall album charts in United States, No. 2 in Australia and No. 4 in the U.K. It’s a very stereotypical of artists to deliberately “leak” songs to form hype and anticipation for an album, but in the case of Knife Party this seems to be an accident. The album was scheduled to release on November 24th with full schedule of promos set up over the next few weeks including an album stream on Thump and special interview with Zane Lowe on BBC Radio One.
Even more thought-provoking is the fact that iTunes lists the release date as “Oct. 27, 2014“, which straightaway indicated a miscommunication happened between Knife Party, the label and iTunes. Though the much awaited album couldn’t go through a well-structured plan, it is still doing well and all parties should be happy with the result. You can listen to the full album on Knife Party’s SoundCloud account and head over to iTunes to purchase the full record now.
