Spotify has announced that highly acclaimed producer/DJ Avicii‘s track “Wake Me Up” has now become the ‘most-played’ song of all time on the music streaming service by crossing 200 million streams and in the process surpassing Imagine Dragon’s, “Radioactive” which has got 182 million streams.

Speaking about his achievement Avicii said, “I’m so excited to be the first artist to reach 200 million streams on Spotify. I’ve had an amazing year, so a massive thanks to all of my fans!”

The track’s popularity has been absolutely clear ever since it’s release and last year in September it became the fastest song to hit 100 million streams on Spotify. It first made its debut during the Swede’s much talked about set at Ultra Music Festival, Miami last year and became an instant hit, earning the top position in 19 countries worldwide. Speaking further in regard to the accomplishment, Avicii stated that, “It’s amazing to see the journey… it was a huge surprise to everyone”.

We would like to congratulate Avicii for his inspiring achievement and look forward to more music coming from his arsenal soon!
