American Indie-pop breakaway band Haim, has been consistently garnering praise from critics and fans alike ever since they formed in 2006. Comprised of Jewish sisters Este Arielle, Danielle Sari and Alana Mychal Haim & along with drummer Dash Hutton, Haim have released their debut studio album earlier this year entitled ‘Days are Gone’. For those who have heard their timeless sound, it’s a refreshing retreat into that which makes music more soulful and delightful as their compositions and lyrics touch the spirit with an effervescent warmth. With their track ‘Forever’, which had released last year, a horde of artists and producers took to remix duties in order to render them as classic – but none are more deserving then influential Italian record producer, songwriter, performer and DJ Giorgio Moroder.
One of the pioneers of the nu disco sound (and perhaps even EDM considering the artists he has guided over the years), Giorgio Moroder has seen the evolution of digital and electronic sound over the decades and has been at the precipice of the ever-alternating trends of electronic music. Most recently, his collaboration with Daft Punk revealed the inspiration he had on the French duo and how his signature sound was the influence for so many electronic music producers. So, imagine a heartwarming melodic journey through Haim’s delightful “Forever”, and then imagine an addictive four-by-four drum loop, a groovy guitar pluck and that new-wave synth sound we all associate Daft Punk sounds with – that’s how diverse this track is!
To call Moroder’s take of the song simply a ‘remix’ might be limiting to the vision he has on the track. Beginning with a sombre bassline where the vocals are more definitive, a signature Moroder digital drumloop laced with some orchestral big-room sounds adds that dancefloor twist to the track. And once those robotic vocals come crashing in mirrored by the husky vocals of Danielle, the percussive guitar and echoing synths make the track as ceremonious as standing on top of a hill watching the world spin by, causing time to cease and making ‘Forever’ happen now!
