Making its debut this Friday, Tomorrowworld among other things, promises exactly what its name suggests – to exhibit the future of music. Apart from the cream of the dance music industry, the festival is also set to showcase a number of artists on the rise. Given the festivals magical and visionary aura, we’ve handpicked some of the upcoming artists who you just can’t miss.
1. The Chainsmokers
Having remixed bands like Phoenix and Two Door Cinema Club, the New York based duo have brought their golden electronic touch to pop concerts and fashion events worldwide. To fall in love with them, check out their freshly dropped remix of The Wanted’s We Own The Night. If their infectious electro melodies don’t do it for you, keep in mind they’re retired high school athletes and self proclaimed male models. We’d make that official.
2. Amtrac
Creatively named after the transcontinental train that might just be taking you to Georgia, Amtrac is a multi-talented songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and, oh yeah, DJ. His cutting edge sounds and perfectly synthesized beats make him an indie-electronic demigod. Want to trip (sans Molly) on a funky progression? This is your guy. Don’t miss Caleb Cornett, better known as Amtrac, on the Kitsuné stage on Saturday at 6pm.
3. Audien
Anything that’s prefixed by the word ‘aud-’ is bound to be heaven for your ears. This progressive prodigy (a sassier Adrian Lux, if you will) has captivated audiences with his stunning yet catchy melodies. Having graced the stages of Tomorrowland already, Audien’s sets are designed to make you dance. Need another reason to attend? Leaving You. ‘Nuff said.
4. Seven Lions
If you haven’t heard the lofty track Strangers yet, hear it now. Named after a fairytale character, Seven Lions is the perfect addition to a line-up at a fantasy inspired festival. Hailing from Santa Barbara, Jeff Montalvo is a jack of all electronic music trades, but you can tell he has a penchant for bass heavy beats. Calling all dubstep fans.
5. Vicetone
If there’s anybody on their way to becoming bosses in the business, it’s these guys. One of the rare artists whose originals are even more explosive than their remixes, there’s literally no other way to describe the music of this Dutch duo other than the word ‘sick’. Their club thumping songs and punchy lyrics will make you want to twist and shout out in the crowd. This is one must attend performance.
6. Will Sparks
The latest talent from down under, Will Sparks has spread that addictive sound known as the Melbourne Bounce across the world, much to its ecstacy. A pioneer of big room, his take on the summer hit Blurred Lines is pretty dope. Check him out on the Super You and Me stage (where he’ll be donning a superhero outfit) on Saturday. There’s no doubt that sparks will fly.
7. Gigamesh
Gigamesh’s remixes will fill you up with a flower-power-meets-the-future kind of love. The producer behind Mike Posner’s smoothly bad-ass Cooler Than Me, Gigamesh’s signature pow-pow (you have to hear it to know it) effects make you want to pump your fists. We recommend his uplifting twist on Dreams – yes, the Fleetwood Mac one – and Pumped Up Kicks to literally get your kicks pumping. Warning: you might even like them more than the originals.
8. Maor Levi
An Israeli prodigy who was searching for inspiration (and sunrise) when he was just 17, found it in Tiesto’s music and released his first track that year on the renowned Anjunabeats label. You won’t be able to resist moving your feet to his remix of The Unlikely Candidates’ Follow My Feet.
9. Danny Avila
Next in the clash of the titan prodigies is Danny Avila, a Spanish talent (and heartthrob) who began spinning at clubs at age 12! Given that Fedde Le Grande was his EDM guru, his exuberant tracks will undeniably bring the energy to the fest.
10. The Knocks
You would have never guessed that these kings of electrostep named themselves after the crabby neighbours who used to knock on their front doors because they played their music too loud. It’s a beautiful vengeance that they’ll now be spinning for a massive crowd of swaying arms and singing voices. Hear their track Modern Hearts, and feel yours fly.
