It’s no doubt Electronic Dance Music, abbreviated commonly as EDM, is on an escalating slope right now. And with that comes some controversial matters. First it was the inception of EDM into the super mainstream with an EDM-casting reality TV show that was definitely not well received, and then we had the better half of it, where Electronic Dance Music was recognized at the most prestigious award ceremony in the history of music, The Grammy’s. We saw a lot of artists then, with Skrillex bagging three Grammy’s and Kaskade hosting the pre-televised ceremony in a grey suit.
Now, Dick Clark Productions, producers of the American Music Awards (AMA’s), Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMA’s) & The Golden Globe Awards are out looking to venture and invest in the Electronic Music field. According to The NY Times, Dick Clark Productions are looking to cash in on rising ratings and advertiser demand for TiVo-proof TV events with a first-of-its-kind awards show to celebrate vinyl-spinning DJs. They are currently in talks with TV broadcasters to partner up with to broadcast the first-of-it’s-kind event.
The outcome of such an event can only be seen once it’s on the air, but until then, we can only hope that this helps benefit the scene in a positive light, instead of sending it into a downward spiral into a bubble-bursting scenario.
