What a month it has been for big releases! Kicking off the second quarter of 2017, April brought us some incredible new music, including multiple massive releases from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey, Kygo and more while also seeing some phenomenal music from Indian talents including Prateek Kuhad and Sid Vashi.

Join us as we take a look at the Top 10 releases for the month of April 2017.

 

10. Autograf – You Might BeAutograf You Might Be

Autograf brought the summer with them with their latest single! “You Might Be” is full of fresh summer breeze mixed with heartfelt vocals of a talented vocalist,Lils. In their heart-touching style with guitar and airy synths, Autograf have delivered some highly catchy hooks on this song. Lils’ evocative vocals are an absolute treat with this emotive and swirling production.

 

9. The Chainsmokers & Coldplay – Something Just Like This (Alesso Remix)

The Chainsmokers’and Coldplay’s high profile collaboration ‘Something Just Like This’ received a chunk of exceptional remixes courtesy several A-list artists from the dance music industry. And one of the major highlights was none other than Alesso’s take on the crossover hit. A classic, progressive house take on the future bass inspired original, the Swedish heavyweight’s latest effort proved to be a gem of a rework, fit for festival stages and airplay alike!

 

8. Linkin Park feat. Pusha T & Stormzy – Good Goodbye

Linkin Park delivered the third single ‘Good Goodbye’ off their upcoming album in collaboration with rappers Pusha T and Stormzy in April. The track features Mike Shinoda, Pusha T and Stormzy with a rap verse each, with Chester Bennington laying down vocals over a gritty hip hop beat. Much different from their previously released singles, both in terms of the sound and lyrically, ‘Good Goodbye’ has a cinematic essence in its entirety, and has been largely appreciated by fans for its different approach.

7. Prateek Kuhad – Tum Jab PaasPrateek Kuhad Tum Jab Paas

Prateek Kuhad returned to action with his latest single ‘Tum Jab Paas‘ this April. Reminiscing about first loves and relationships, he paints quite a surreal picture with the evocative lyrics, taking you on a nostalgic walk down memory lane.

 

6. Sid Vashi – PreySid Vashi Prey

Sid Vashi finally unveiled the first single ‘Prey‘ off his forthcoming album ‘Azuma Kazuma‘ that surely has been a long time coming! Teaming up with long time collaborator Soopy and Mumbai-based singer Divya Lewis, Sid flexes his fine production skills once again to showcase his widely loved brand of electronic music drenched in jazz and ambient influences. An exceptional track which engages listeners from the get go, Sid weaves up an air of mystery around the tune’s texture-filled sonic atmosphere. Further bolstered by moody vocals courtesy Divya and additional work by Sid himself, his love for saxophones do the trick!

 

5. Lana Del Rey feat. The Weeknd – Lust For LifeLana Del Rey Lust For Life

Lana Del Rey officially teamed up with The Weeknd for the title track off her forthcoming new album ‘Lust For Life‘. The moody, new single fits perfectly into both acts’ respective catalogs, their latest collaboration sees the two work in tandem to deliver their respective verses in delicate fashion before Abel joins Lana during the chorus. Making up for yet another memorable outing, their latest joint effort follows up to their previous works which include Beauty Behind the Madness (‘Prisoner’) and Starboy (‘Party Monster’ and ‘Stargirl Interlude’).

 

4. Short Round – AutumnShort Round Autumn

Mumbai based singer-songwriter Jishnu Guha released the second EP under his Short Round alias, after his five track debut EP, ‘Desperate Times‘ was released in March last year. The seven track sophomore EP, titled ‘With Friends Like These‘, saw Jishnu collaborate with a number of fellow musicians in the indie music space, including the likes of Siddharth Basrur (Last Remaining Light), Mali, Saurabh Roy (The Lightyears Explode), Anna Holmquist and many more. But one standout track which captured the hearts of many was none other than ‘Autumn’. A mellow number led by his signature folk-rock sound, the track sees Jishnu conjure up a beautiful landscape of sunbathed melodies.

 

3. Kygo & Ellie Goulding – First TimeKygo First Time

Kygo returned to action with his latest tune featuring none other than famed singer Ellie Goulding. Titled ‘First Time‘, the ethereal new collaboration plays out as a near perfect amalgamation of both the artists’ signature styles. Led by Ellie’s swoon worthy vocals, Kygo makes full use of one of the finest singing talents in the industry with his unparalleled production genius. With islandic melodies and airy synths weaving more magic alongside a standout vocal effort, Kygo’s latest single holds the potential to outmatch his previous high profile collaboration with Selena Gomez.

 

2. Kendrick Lamar – DNAKendrick Lamar DNA

April not only witnessed the release of Kendrick Lamar’s fourth studio album ‘DAMN.’, but also brought one of his hottest works, aka ‘DNA.’ to life. A powerful anthem which also saw him hit back at Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera,  the Compton rapper addressed blackness and how hip-hop can actually be used as a tool to address conflicts, and not inflict damage within the community.

 

1. ODESZA – Late NightODESZA Late Night

ODESZA made a triumphant return following a two-year long hiatus with the release of not one, but two brand new singles! And the track which takes the top spot is undoubtedly, ‘Late Night’. The joyful piece which stands out as one of their more energetic, pacy works till date, features infectious basslines, lush synths, and additional vocal chants which drive the track forward. Moreover, while their latest creation marks a shift in their traditional sounds, it is unapologetically ODESZA at its core.
