After delivering a notorious prank on Coachella attendees, as they constructed a fake Daft Punk performance, Indie Rock giants Arcade Fire continue to be in the limelight thanks to some casual dissing by band frontman Win Butler. A seemingly harmless remark such as “Shout out to all the bands still playing actual instruments at this festival,” was more than enough to get the EDM fraternity’s self-employed spokesperson and Electronica legend Deadmau5 fired up and stand up in defense of the DJ Brotherhood!
Deadmau5 went on a Tweet-spree as he openly remarked his disgust at the dissing nature of Arcade Fire‘s comments. He insisted that “A computer is a tool, not an instrument,” and that “Arcade Fire needs to settle down”. He offered to draw parallels between rock and electronic music as he compared Daft Punk to Steve Vai’s onstage presence. The crescendo of his onslaght on Arcade Fire was when he remarked that “If he wants to watch real artists perform, he’d pick the opera before wasting time with Arcade Fire” before using the hashtag ‘#doyouevenscorebro‘.
shit to remember: A computer is a tool, not an instrument.

but since some EDM is enjoyable to me, ill go watch them fake it, and enjoy it more than you hate the fact that they cant play guitar.

… but seriously, im just sayin… you should get out to the opera if you ever get a chance, the orchestra pit is a cespool of pure skill.
— deadmau5 (@deadmau5) April 23, 2014

— deadmau5 (@deadmau5) April 24, 2014

Now, this isn’t the first time that artists from the Rock community have openly remarked on their disdain for electronic music. Arctic Monkey‘s frontman Alex Turner‘s acceptance speech at the BRIT Awards saw him request ‘to support rock in times of electronica’, meanwhile Foo Fighter‘s frontman Dave Grohl used his Grammy Award acceptance speech to lash out at ‘the absence of the human element in music being generated from the computer’. Grohl, however, did release a statement later where he assured fans of electronic music about his support and that he loves all kinds of music. In an age, where music genres generate legions of fans overnight, we sincerely hope that artists and fans can find a way to co-exist and love & respect others artform and skill in an amicable manner. Meanwhile, something tells us that we haven’t seen the last of this rant and either parties will definitely go at each other. What do you think?
