Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ Sounds Strikingly Similar To Song Posted 3 Years Back!

If you were once a young enthusiastic guitarist, looking around Youtube for guitar covers, the name Zack Kim should ring a bell to you. Zack Kim was known for doing novelty covers of various theme songs and playing the guitar in a manner not seen to many, called ‘free hands’, where he is seen tapping two guitars simultaneously. In the earlier Youtube days, he was a star. Hitting a few million views was a rare achievement at the time and Zack Kim had a 100 of those. And all that disappeared when he removed his channel after he joined the Korean army.

So why is his name circulating the internet right now?

‘Robot Dance’ is an original that Zack Kim worked on back in 2010, 3 years before Random Access Memories. This particular song does not derive it’s relevance to Daft Punk from the title, but rather from the song itself. As you listen to the song, right from the first progression, you wonder where you’ve heard this tune before; and then it hits you. An image of Pharell, the robots & Nile Rodgers forms in your head, strung against the setting sun; just a backdrop of orange with black silhouettes.

As the song progresses, the relevance to Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ grows stronger and you just sit there and wonder. Now we’re not saying Daft Punk went the will.i.am way, as this chord progression is one commonly found in the genres of Jazz. But it leaves you wondering, at what point does coincidence become incredulous.

You can watch a (re-upload) of the video here. Music starts at 0:22.
