New Trailer Released for the Film “Until Dawn”
A fresh trailer has just been released for the film “Until Dawn,” based on Supermassive’s popular horror video game. The movie features an ensemble cast including Odessa A’zion, Michael Cimino, Maia Mitchell, Ella Rubin, Belmont Cameli, Ji-young Yoo, Willem van der Vegt, and Peter Stormare as Dr. Hill. Audiences can catch the movie in theaters starting April 25.
Plot Overview
The narrative of the film centers around Clover, who, a year after her sister Melanie’s mysterious disappearance, ventures into the secluded valley with her friends to uncover what happened. Their investigation leads them to an eerie, deserted visitor center. Here, they are relentlessly pursued by a masked assailant intent on killing them one by one. However, in a bizarre twist, each time they are killed, they find themselves alive again at the start of the evening, trapped in a chilling time loop.
Adaptation Details
While “Until Dawn” the film isn’t a direct scene-by-scene remake of the game, it retains a crucial element – the time loop – that allows the characters to endure multiple deaths. This aspect mirrors the game’s mechanic where players’ choices determine their fate, repeatedly challenging the characters to find a way to survive until dawn.
Director David F. Sandberg explained in a recent behind-the-scenes featurette, “Every time they resurrect, it’s as though they’ve entered a different horror movie. To get out alive, they must last until the sunrise.”
Upcoming Video Game Adaptations
“Until Dawn” is part of a larger trend of video game adaptations hitting screens this year. Other anticipated releases include “The Minecraft Movie” debuting on April 4, “Mortal Kombat 2” set for October 24, and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” arriving on December 5. Additionally, HBO is set to release the second season of “The Last of Us” in April, while “Twisted Metal” is under development for its second season, and “Fallout” is expected to return to TV with some major revelations.
Supermassive Games, the developer behind “Until Dawn,” also recently showcased new footage of its upcoming sci-fi horror game “Directive 8020,” which is slated for release in October.
