Warning: Spoilers for HBO’s The Last of Us Ahead
Nico Parker revealed she has yet to watch the second season of The Last of Us. During an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Parker, who portrayed Joel’s (acted by Pedro Pascal) daughter Sarah in the first season, expressed that she finds the thought of witnessing the on-screen death of her character’s father too upsetting.
“The thought of watching him die is incredibly upsetting to me,” Parker shared (as reported by EW). Despite this, she mentioned her admiration for the cast and expressed her intention to watch the second season eventually, but she’s not ready just yet. “Seeing Pedro die is overwhelming,” she admitted.
Parker has previously seen Pascal meet his demise in a film, as she recounted watching Gladiator II and seeing his character die. “I was completely okay with it,” she remarked.
In the controversial second episode of Season 2, Joel is violently killed by a character named Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever. This scene mirrors the shocking moment from the video game The Last of Us: Part II and provoked a strong response from the audience. Showrunner Craig Mazin commented on the uproar, noting, “everyone lost their sh**” following the episode.
Addressing the confusion and emotional reactions from fans, some of whom asked, “Why did you kill Pedro Pascal?” Mazin clarified the situation humorously. “I keep explaining, ‘We didn’t kill him! He’s a man, he’s alive. He’s fine. And he’s in literally everything else,” Mazin stated, referring to Pascal’s busy acting career, which has become a recurring joke among fans.
There’s more of The Last of Us to come, with the series set to return for a third season. However, the premiere date is still to be announced. Following this, a fourth season is anticipated to conclude the series.
