Take-Two CEO Is 'Highly Confident' on New GTA 6 Release Date, But Says When Games Are Released Too Early, 'Bad Things Happen'

Further Delay for GTA 6 with New Release Date Set for November 2026

The launch of Grand Theft Auto VI has been postponed once again, now rescheduled for November 19, 2026. This marks the second time the release date has been pushed back since its initial announcement. Despite this, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, remains “highly confident” that there will be no further delays.

Originally, the much-anticipated title was slated for release in fall 2025. Despite circulating rumors of a potential delay at that time, CEO Strauss Zelnick assured confidence in the timeline. However, the release was subsequently moved to May 2026, with both Take-Two and its subsidiary Rockstar Games citing the need for additional time to polish the game.

When questioned once more about the assurance of the new release date and the possibility of the game slipping into 2027, Zelnick reiterated his confidence. He acknowledged that although there have been instances where extra time was necessary to refine a game and ensure its quality, such delays have historically paid off. He emphasized the importance of releasing a well-polished game and the negative consequences competitors faced when rushing products to market.

Record-Breaking Earnings Amidst Corporate Controversy

Take-Two Interactive recently announced record net bookings of $1.96 billion for the second quarter, the highest in its history. This surge was driven by successful launches of NBA 2K26, Mafia: The Old Country, and Borderlands 4. Additionally, Grand Theft Auto V continues to perform exceptionally well in sales, with lifetime units sold now surpassing 220 million.

In a contrasting turn of events, Take-Two has been in the news for firing dozens of employees last week. The company accused these individuals of leaking confidential information in a public forum. However, the fired employees contend that their dismissal was due to their discussions about unionization and organizing within the company. In response, they staged a protest outside the Rockstar North and Take-Two’s UK offices today.

The shifting landscape at Take-Two highlights the complex dynamics at play within the gaming industry, balancing record-breaking financial achievements with internal corporate disputes and the ongoing challenges of game development delays.
