Spiritualized has expanded their U.S. tour to include two additional dates in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their seminal second album, Pure Phase. The group will perform the album in its entirety at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn and the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on September 25 and September 28, respectively.
During a press release, J Spaceman expressed his thoughts on Pure Phase, stating, “It’s quite remarkable and I might even call it my top pick among the albums I’ve created. The method we used to put it together really fulfilled my desire to defy convention. It wasn’t about making a big statement, but there’s something about the process that truly gratified me. We made a unique mix for each stereo channel. Revisiting the masters, it still strikes me as this incredible creation. It occupies a unique sonic space; it sounds unlike anything else.” He further noted that the album drew inspiration from Michael Nyman, Steve Reich, John Adams, as well as elements of rock’n’roll and gospel, which he described as sounding like “driving at full speed in heavy rain.”
