Sam Rami's Underappreciated Cowboy Flick Is Getting A 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-Ray

Grab a few bucks and prepare to step back in time as the 30th anniversary of Sam Raimi’s Western, “The Quick and the Dead,” approaches in 2025. To commemorate this milestone, a new limited edition steelbook of the movie is being released on 4K Blu-ray. You can place your preorders now for $41.49, which includes both standard and digital streaming versions of the film. The release is scheduled for October 7.

Special Features of The Quick and the Dead 30th Anniversary Steelbook Edition

The upcoming 30th Anniversary Steelbook Edition of “The Quick and the Dead” offers a modest array of special features, enhancing what was available in previous Blu-ray releases. Included in this edition are:

  • Six deleted scenes
  • The original theatrical trailer

If Westerns are your genre of choice and you haven’t yet seen “The Quick and the Dead,” this film is a must-watch. It cleverly subverts typical Western tropes and continues to impress with its visuals and storytelling, even three decades after its initial release.

Released in 1995, “The Quick and the Dead” is often hailed as one of the standout Westerns of the ’90s, despite not garnering widespread recognition initially. The film boasts a stellar cast including Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, a young Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Keith David, and Lance Henriksen. Set in the ruthless town of Redemption, the story revolves around a woman, known simply as Lady (played by Stone), who enters a dueling competition to exact revenge on John Herod (played by Hackman), the man responsible for her father’s death years earlier.

Sam Raimi’s distinctive direction is evident in “The Quick and the Dead,” marked by his unique camera angles and dynamic action sequences, similar to those seen in his “Evil Dead” and “Darkman” films. The 4K remaster is particularly impressive with its robust HDR-10 color grading, enhanced image sharpness, and a balanced film grain that accentuates the visual depth, significantly surpassing the quality of previous Blu-ray versions from the late 2000s.

Following “The Quick and the Dead,” Raimi continued to make a mark in Hollywood, directing the renowned Spider-Man trilogy among other films. The first Spider-Man movie set a new standard for superhero films and was followed by two successful sequels. For fans looking to revisit this series, the 4K Blu-ray collection is currently available for $43.69, down from $76.

“The Quick and the Dead” isn’t the only ’90s film getting a 4K update. Arrow Video is releasing new UHD remasters of “The Mask,” “Spawn,” and “In the Mouth of Madness.” For more contemporary tastes, “The Long Walk Limited Edition Steelbook” is available for $35, and “F1: The Movie” offers an exhilarating glimpse into Formula One racing.
